Echoes
Recording Studio was established in 1991 by myself, Todd Matthew
Stotler. I had been playing in various local bands as a drummer
and had been running sound for various bands when the idea
was formed. I was increasingly becoming aware of a need for
a recording studio that gave musicians the freedom to make
individual artistic choices. I was never happy with the results
of other studios that I recording in when I was younger and
decided to start recording my own projects myself. The original
studio, which was primarily used as a means to record my own
bands and friends bands, was located in the Hamilton Plaza,
second floor in downtown Hagerstown between 1990 and 1991.
This studio consisted of a four track cassette deck and a
few various pieces of outboard gear. Results were less then
high fidelity but very promising. I was greatly, and still
am, heavily influenced by the Beatles, and their producers,
engineers and recording techniques.
I have spent years studying about their record production
and producing.
In
1997 I moved to Long Beach, California in order to intern
at two major Los Angeles recording studios. Upon my return,
I decided to bring the studio into a more professional setting.
I purchased several Alesis ADATs, new microphones, more outboard
gear and a computer to assist in the mastering process. The
location varied as I briefly worked with a local club in exchange
for building space. In 1999, I moved back into renovated barn
in Sharpsburg that I once used during 1994-1997. While at
this location, I continued to build and expand my ever growing
list of studio equipment. It was around this time that became
a gear junkie (aka collector of all types of recording gear,
vintage and modern).
In
January of 2001, I secured a new location, a two story 3500
square foot nineteenth century farmhouse. I spent the next
eleven months restoring the new studio to meet my specifications.
When the studio officially reopened in November 2001 we were
able to offer three live/isolation rooms, a large comfortable
control room, and a digital audio workstation (we currently
use Nuendo software as the primary platform).
Echoes
is constantly looking for ways to improve upon the studio
and the Echoes Recording experience. We are continually upgrading
not only the equipment but also the acoustics in all of our
rooms in an ever expanding quest for the ultimate sound at
economical prices. I am also a firm believer in making the
recording environment as relaxed and laid back as possible.
I have always detested the more sterile, intimidating environment
of commercial recording studios and have tried to be the "anti"
of that. Our studio is located in a rural setting, lots of
trees, fresh air, wildlife. And the rooms are all decorated
with a relaxed feel to them.
Echoes
Recording continues to hold true to the philosophy upon which
it was founded, in that each and every client is offered complete
rein on their project, to ensure the desired product. As
for the future, Echoes continues to expand its equipment and
facility's, keeping at the forefront of current software and
acoustic designs.
